The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is a licensed professional provider who functions in collaboration with an attending physician in a variety of practice settings at YNHHS. Provides exceptional direct diagnostic and therapeutic patient care to the highest standards of the organization as part of a multidisciplinary team. Cultivates a patient-centric environment which focuses on the whole individual, inclusive of physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and functional needs of the patient, family, and significant others. Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care within scope of practice standards, as well as specialty-specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise. This subspecialty surgery position (ENT, Urology, GYN, Plastic Surgery, and Robotic Surgery) will cover Bridgeport and Milford Hospitals. Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday with slightly variable hours: 7:00-3:30 at Bridgeport and 8:30-5:00 at Milford. Occasional weekday evening and weekend calls. Procedures
Significant operative responsibility. Looking for someone with OR first assisting experience; additional training in robotics is a plus. Education
Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Experience
Prefer clinical working experience as an NP/PA within the given specialty/service line is recommended, but none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN, PA, CRNA, or CNM via appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners must be obtainable during the Medical Staff appointment process in order to be eligible. A General Surgery Physician Assistant plays a vital role in the surgical team, blending technical expertise with clinical judgment and compassionate patient care. Yale New Haven Health is looking for candidates who meet the following expectations: Mastery of surgical procedures: Proficient in assisting with a variety of techniques, from laparoscopic to minimally invasive surgeries, to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Comprehensive knowledge: Deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and advanced surgical instruments to support complex cases. Skilled in pre- and post-operative care: Manage patient care with preparation and recovery in mind. Critical thinking and problem solving: Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions in high-pressure surgical settings. Clinical Care: The NP/PA provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs, collaborates with supervising physicians, may provide autonomous team-based care, obtains histories, performs exams, reviews tests, and formulates plans. May perform procedures, prescribe treatments, and assist in operative cases within scope and regulations. Patient Education & Psychosocial Support: Educate patients/families on care, discharge plans, and available resources; provide psychosocial support as part of a multidisciplinary team. Information Management: Document per hospital and regulatory requirements, protecting patient information. Quality Management: Maintain high standards of ethics and professionalism; ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Professional Development: Engage in activities to maintain and advance competency; may serve as a clinical resource, preceptor, mentor, and participate in quality improvement projects.
