Position Summary
The Psychiatric Services team is a workgroup with the Jail Health Services Division. We provide mental health and psychiatric care to detained residents at the King County Correctional Facility and Maleng Regional Justice Center. Jail Health Psychiatrists are responsible for providing psychiatric care as part of a team of other mental health/psychiatry professionals within the Jail Health Services division of Public Health. This position is distinguished from the Jail Health Managing Psychiatrist, which oversees psychiatric clinical operations, policy development, standards compliance, and leadership for the facility\'s mental health program. Background
JHS provides health and social services to the incarcerated population at King County jails (KCCF in Seattle and MRJC in Kent). Primary services include medical, dental, mental health, social and release planning services, substance use treatment, and pharmaceutical services. The division includes over 250 employees and a budget of over $60 million. The purpose of JHS is to assure high-quality health and human services for the incarcerated population with a focus on transition from jail. JHS operates 24/7 to provide a broad range of care, with specialized housing and higher levels of service for patients with serious conditions. Staffing adapts to changing needs. We are seeking applicants for a full-time (40 hours/week) and a part-time (24-32 hours/week) position. These positions are non-Exempt and FLSA eligible. Standard hours are Monday through Friday between 7am and 5pm. Employees may work 8 or 10 hour shifts. Weekend rotations are required with a flex day off. Rotating day pager (on-site) and overnight on-call shifts are included with compensation. Work Location

Provide psychiatric services as an independent psychiatric health care provider based on clinical practice guidelines, CDC guidelines, mental health standards, and current community standards. Assess patients and establish diagnoses via comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including history, mental status, and appropriate tests; conduct in clinic or psychiatric housing as required. Develop differential diagnoses and risk identification through assessment and data interpretation. Provide managed care by developing and implementing individual treatment plans, prescribing/dispensing medication, and providing counseling and case management. Complete documentation in Epic electronic health record; communicate care through charting and interactions with the health care team; provide leadership as needed. Respond to medical or psychiatric emergencies as part of the jail health care team. Ensure quality of professional practice within legal and ethical standards; participate in continuing education, peer review, chart review, and guideline development. Provide leadership and collaboration within the health care team to ensure quality patient care. Provide patient care consultation to other Jail Health Services staff when on call. Provide training and education to staff, clients, and students; participate in continuing education and quality assurance activities. Act as a consultant to the health care team and community, advocating for patients. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum
(our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following): Washington State medical license in good standing Current Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry Federal Drug Enforcement certificate Basic Life Support CPR certification with AED Washington State Driver’s License or ability to commute to assigned locations Security clearance and/or background check Willing to provide options counseling and possible referrals as needed Advanced knowledge of human systems, wellness, growth and development, nutrition, behavioral health, and related areas Knowledge of diagnostic testing, interpretation, and clinical decision-making Knowledge of alternative treatment modalities and health promotion Knowledge of community resources and health care system structure Knowledge of therapeutic client interventions and group dynamics Experience with electronic health record documentation Ability to engage with diverse cultures and backgrounds Ability to work independently and as a team member Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Office 365 Desired
