Overview

Under general supervision, the MRI technologist will safely perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging system. Prepare patients, position, set imaging parameters, acquire images, perform computer processing, and display images. Select appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies and perform quality assurance scans as required. Demonstrate the ability to work cohesively as a team member within the MRI Department and consult appropriate content experts as needed (e.g., radiologist, nurse, child life specialist). Rotate to MRI scanners across the assigned department as needed and be available to work occasional overnight shifts and holidays as deemed necessary by the department (except for per-diem technologists). Confirm patient name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered with each patient per Joint Commission guidelines. Prepare patients, position for exams, set imaging parameters per protocol, perform computer processing, and display images for both clinical and research patients. Competent in managing ambulatory/outpatient patients needing MRI exams with and without contrast. Inserts IV catheters as needed and prepares for and performs intravenous injections of MR contrast agents, including use of the MR compatible power injector. Understands and communicates possible contraindications and monitors for and responds to adverse reactions. Records all relevant contrast information in the EMR. Performs point of care testing (POCT) where applicable. Instructs patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures and ensures adherence to safety policies by all persons entering the MRI area. Acts as final safety check prior to scanning for protocol clarification and patient safety. Identifies hazardous system malfunctions; secures area and removes patients and personnel from the magnet bay during emergency situations. Performs scheduled quality control procedures on the MRI scanner and related equipment; records QA results and reports potential equipment issues to the supervisor as necessary. Assists Practice Assistant and other department staff with duties such as scheduling, transporting patients, taking stock inventory, filing, etc. Qualifications

Certificate/Diploma in medical imaging required Associate's in medical imaging preferred MRI certification (ARRT or ARMRIT) required within 1 year CPR within 90 days Schedule
