Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Network Engineer / Architect
with deep expertise in
Cisco
enterprise networking and proven experience modernizing network connectivity into AWS. This consultant will lead the
assessment
and
transformation
of a
legacy Cisco-based networking environment
into a
cloud-optimized architecture
using
AWS Cloud WAN ,
Transit Gateway ,
SD-WAN , and
hybrid connectivity models . This role requires a unique blend of
hands-on technical analysis
and
strategic architecture guidance . The ideal candidate will produce
documentation ,
topology diagrams , and
workload assessments
that directly inform a
large-scale cloud migration
and
modernization roadmap . Key Responsibilities
Phase 1 – Discovery & Assessment (160 hours):
Review and document current Cisco-based network topology across distributed sites and data centers. Analyze a prior Transit VPC proof-of-concept and identify root causes of failure. Document networking requirements for workloads (latency, bandwidth, traffic patterns). Conduct infrastructure inventory review and install discovery tooling. Perform workload dependency mapping and assessments using AWS 7Rs and TIME frameworks. Provide modernization recommendations aligned with AWS best practices.
Phase 2 – Milestone-Based Execution (720+ hours):
Conduct site infrastructure analysis and document current network configurations. Catalog Cisco routers, firewalls, and WAN/SD-WAN setups. Perform traffic flow analysis for critical workloads and document DNS/IP schemes. Produce current-state diagrams, dependency maps, and migration-ready topology documentation. Recommend hybrid Cisco + AWS architectures and database modernization strategies.
Skills & Experience
Required 10+ years of enterprise networking experience
with
senior-level Cisco expertise
(routing, switching, firewalls, LAN/WAN, SD-WAN). Hands-on experience with
remote connectivity : Cisco VPN/AnyConnect, Viptela/Meraki SD-WAN. Proven experience
integrating Cisco networking with AWS services : AWS Network Firewall, Security Groups, NACLs, DNS & IP addressing Strong background in
network assessments ,
traffic flow analysis , and
dependency mapping . Familiarity with
AWS migration frameworks
(7Rs, TIME) and
workload discovery tooling . Excellent
communication
skills for
customer-facing documentation
and
presentations . Preferred - Cisco certifications : CCNP/CCIE AWS certifications : Advanced Networking Specialty, Solutions Architect, or Cloud Practitioner Experience in
regulated environments
(HIPAA, CJIS, IRS Pub 1075) Knowledge of
modernization strategies
for
large-scale, citizen-facing workloads Experience
mentoring internal network teams
