Overview

Manager, Publishing Workflow at American Psychiatric Association. The role focuses on coordinating with vendors and editorial teams to develop and maintain digital-first workflows for editorial and production of books, managing XML/DITA outputs, and ensuring high-quality digital and print publications. Base pay range $85,600.00/yr - $103,600.00/yr Responsibilities

Coordinate closely with vendors and consultants, along with the Director, Digital Technology and Director, Books Editorial, to develop and maintain digital-first workflows for editorial and production of books. Oversee standards for production of books in BITS XML for digital publication. Review all digital books content output of XML and other formats supplied by vendors and maintain the integrity of validated structured content. Design interior text for publications and manage graphics standards for Books Department publications, including page layouts using desktop typesetting software. Serve as main point of contact for vendors to maintain output quality and ensure workflows meet editorial needs. Coordinate prepress/production aspects of projects, maintain schedules and deadlines, ensure timely publication, and manage cover/design processes with internal and external teams. Work with Senior Editors throughout the production process and produce final reproduction-quality pages or electronic files. Archive computer files for completed projects and manage production training on platform software and XML workflow. Provide production support to ensure department stays current with design and production trends. Manage in-house metadata for books and maintain font/graphics libraries. Design covers, interior layouts, and other graphic elements; collaborate with Marketing, Editors, and Authors on initial concepts and copy integration. Coordinate with Marketing to ensure cover copy is supplied on schedule and incorporate marketing quotes into cover design. Create and provide PDF files, laser proofs, fonts, graphics, and prepress specifications to manufacturers. Supervise training of production and editorial staff in XML workflow and typesetting software; arrange for external training as needed. Monitor workflow progress and project status; report to the Director, Publishing Technology. Prioritize workload to meet high-priority schedules and ensure output quality from vendors. Required Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

BA/BS and at least 5-7 years of relevant experience and/or sufficient relevant work experience. Proven experience in prepress and digital content management; strong experience with XML and desktop publishing systems (e.g., InDesign, FrameMaker) and graphics software (Illustrator, Photoshop), with at least 7 years in editorial production. Experience managing vendor relationships and familiarity with content management systems and web publishing platforms. Superior production skills with meticulous attention to detail; ability to work independently and meet deadlines; high level of productivity. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with platform vendors, website hosts, and other stakeholders; ability to work well with editorial teams and other APA departments. Seniority level
