Overview The AWS Hardware Engineering team is driving rapid innovation in the server and storage infrastructure used by Amazon Web Services. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to build and own server firmware and embedded software for AWS world-scale compute and storage solutions. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, hands-on leader seasoned in building and leading software teams developing infrastructure solutions. You will lead a team of highly motivated software developers that thrives on solving challenging problems with innovative solutions. The team combines software and firmware skills with scalable software engineering disciplines to solve real-world data center infrastructure problems. You will lead a team building, validating, and operating software solutions in diverse technology domains from embedded software platforms to large-scale distributed software systems in Python, C, and other languages using proprietary and open source technologies and Amazon services alike.

Responsibilities

Lead a team responsible for development and operation of embedded software and firmware in the AWS fleet including BIOS, BMC, storage solutions, power and battery systems, and more.

Lead new feature development efforts from concept to launch and beyond.

Establish strategic vision and drive tactical execution in defining and delivering new products and services.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable rapid development of next-generation devices.

Own the implementation of your work and drive product improvements based on results.

Work in a fast-paced, intellectually challenging environment with leaders across multiple technology areas.

Qualifications

3+ years of engineering team management experience

7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams

3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, scaling) of new and existing systems

8+ years of experience defining and developing multi-tier web services

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations

Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe features, designs, and product strategy

Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on location and may vary with knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
