Under general direction of surgical nurse, performs fairly complex surgical technician duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. This position is assigned surgical technician support to several specialty surgical areas within UC San Diego Health. Duties include verification of specialty equipment and inventory, contacting surgeons concerning equipment, contacting supply companies and their vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment, and providing continuing education in-service to staff. As the only academic medical center in San Diego, UC San Diego Medical Center sets the standard for experienced professionals and offers a dynamic educational environment in the OR where teamwork and learning are valued. Minimum Qualifications
Prior Surgical Technician experience working in an inpatient main operating room. Completion of surgical training from an accredited institution or specialized program. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire date. Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures. Preferred Qualifications
OR experience, trauma experience preferred. Special Conditions
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $91,329 - $91,329 (will be prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $43.74 - $43.74. Factors in compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, education, licensure, and certifications. The Hiring Pay Scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position and may be broader than the amount paid, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements where applicable. Vaccination/Certification Policies If employed by the University, compliance with the Policy on Vaccination Programs may be required. Life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
