Join to apply for the Communications Specialist role at Haynes and Boone, LLP. The Communications Specialist at Haynes Boone supports firm management, the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Media Relations, contributing to the firm’s external communications strategy by creating compelling written content and contributing to earned media efforts. This position is integral to the execution of press initiatives; article placements and attorney engagement aligned with the firm’s branding and strategic goals under the 2030 Plan. The Communications Specialist reports directly to the Director of Media Relations. Responsibilities
Media Relations and Pitching: Monitor legal and industry news to spot timely opportunities for attorney commentary; Draft pitches and contribute to media outreach in collaboration with the team; Cultivate relationships with legal and business reporters; Coordinate logistics with reporters and the firm’s external PR agency. Content Creation: Draft press releases about lateral hires, client work, awards, rankings and other firm milestones; Edit attorney-written articles and other written work for clarity, tone and alignment with firm standards; Assist with social media content; Write articles and media coverage excerpts. Attorney Support: Participate in new partner onboarding by preparing communications deliverables; Support media training sessions and publication guidance for attorneys; Assist attorneys with questions related to article placement, style and process. Team Collaboration and Administrative Tasks: Load content into the firm’s content management system and maintain newsroom updates; Track and report media placements for internal performance reporting. Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in professional Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Media. Professional services, legal industry or corporate communications experience preferred. Skills:
Excellent writing, editing and research skills. Strong verbal communication abilities. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail and accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Office and content management systems. Must be collaborative, responsive and committed to professionalism. Strong organizational skills and work ethics are required. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related field required. Physical Demands
Must be able to move around the office up to 15% of the time. Remains stationary at least 85% of the time. This position operates computers and other office productivity machines. Occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs. This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the firm attorneys, clients and staff. This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time. The employee must specifically be able to detect objects at close range and at a distance, detect color, detect objects using peripheral ability, have depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
