Overview
At Shine in the World Ministries (SHINE), we dream of a world where people from every tribe, tongue and nation encounter God’s love and find salvation in Jesus Christ. For this vision to come to pass, we require massive people and financial resources to deploy our evangelistic strategies effectively. The Vice President for Development is responsible for taking the lead role alongside the President, the Executive Vice-President, and the Shine Board of Directors in raising the Shine annual budget. This includes developing and executing strategies to navigate short-term financial needs while also broadening and building deep and meaningful relationships with partners for long-term growth and investment in the Shine vision and mission. A successful VP for Development will grow and lead the Development team and work in coordination with the President and the Executive Vice President to ensure that a clear strategy is in place guiding Shine’s financial growth, thus ensuring financial goals are being met and key donors are being engaged. She/he provides overall executive leadership to the development team and reports directly to the President. Core Competencies & Skills
Demonstrate Godly character, servant-minded leadership, and the ability to work well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Executive-level teamwork experience with interpersonal skills in oral and written communication. Proven experience in developing capital for ministry purposes, particularly including the ability to ask for major gifts. Embody a passion for the Gospel proclamation and be skilled in fundraising for the work of evangelism. Effective communication that is adaptive to all situations and fosters internal and external relationships using a variety of formats and media. Strategic leadership with an ability to clearly articulate the Shine vision and mission environment and healthy culture. Ability to navigate short-term financial needs while balancing long-term growth and relationships. Persistent in engaging and following up with donors. Organized and given to detail. Overall management of self, staff and the development department for the optimal team environment and healthy culture. Responsibilities & Objectives
Take the leadership role alongside the President and Executive Vice-President in raising the Shine budget, meeting short-term financial needs while cultivating deep, long-term donor relationships. Work with the President, EVP, and Shine Board of Directors to ensure development strategies effectively achieve target goals and grow Shine’s global impact. Develop and execute cultivation strategies for prospective, current, and past major donors. Network locally and nationally, resulting in identifying and cultivating new key relationships that ultimately lead to major gifts. Build and maintain strong relationships with major donors and donor identifiers through strategic meetings, personal communication, event involvement, and time investment. Make appropriate asks (individual, corporate, church, foundation) necessary to help fulfill the Shine mission with a strategy of moving donors to loyal, major gift capacity giving. Create opportunities nationally for key Shine leadership to speak to groups interested in Shine’s mission and able to give significantly. Envision, plan, and execute successful small and large group events such as the Founder’s Weekend, galas, in-home vision nights, and others. Develop systems competency with organizational approaches and software systems as needed for all fundraising objectives. Provide executive level leadership for the development department through team hiring, training, and performance management. Organizational Responsibilities
A follower of Jesus Christ who aligns with Shine’s statement of faith and evangelistic vision. Model Christian integrity and teamwork in all interactions. Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Shine Employee Manual. Recruit, train, and nurture a growing development team to achieve Shine’s funding objectives. Other Responsibilities
Provide a weekly status report to the President and Executive VP by 5 pm Friday. Develop strong relationships and collaborate with other Shine team members. Participate in weekly Executive Leadership team and general staff meetings. Maintain professional demeanor and Christian accountability. Travel 40–60%.
