Overview
Job Title: Medical Assistant (Ophthalmic Technician)
Company: Apex Eye • Location: Frisco, TX
No eyecare and/or medical experience is needed—we are willing to train.
Responsibilities
Facilitate patient flow
Assist the doctor in preliminary testing
Verify medical and vision insurances
Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
Greet patients promptly with a smile and thank them when they leave
Maintain a sense of urgency with patient choreography and scheduling
Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
Verify patient information by interviewing the patient
Record medical history, current medications, and purpose of visit
Record all data in the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Assess eye condition by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
Perform diagnostic tests including dilation, refraction, pressures, visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor, and topography
Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications
Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Favorable result on background check
Basic computer skills
Strong customer service skills
Excitement to learn and grow
One-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred in some cases)
Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
Hours
Full-time
Office is open Monday–Thursday 7:30am–5:30pm, Friday 7:30am–12:00pm
You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed
