Overview
Under the direction of the Director, DSA Communications, the Digital Media Specialist is responsible for multimedia production and social media engagement strategies to advance the objectives of the Student Affairs. The incumbent ensures the creation of impact-driven content that resonates with diverse audiences and fosters community connection. This position is responsible for cultivating a student assistant team of photographers, videographers, and social media content creators. The incumbent will stay updated on media trends in the higher education landscape and bring new and innovative ideas to CSULB. By upholding accessibility standards, supervising student assistants, and facilitating cross-departmental partnerships, the specialist contributes to the enhancement of communication efforts and the promotion of equity and inclusivity across campus. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Media Production Management: Coordinate Student Affairs projects in photography, video, and multimedia.
Social Media Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement social media strategies to increase engagement and following across various platforms.
Collaboration with Student Affairs Departments: Serve as the primary point of contact for Student Affairs departments and programs regarding media needs and initiatives.
Student Assistant Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise student assistants involved in photography, videography, and social media content creation and management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Evidence of expertise in media production equipment and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
Strong understanding of social media platforms, social media marketing strategy, and best practices for engagement.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences and constituency groups.
Ability to listen and take feedback and implement with accuracy, direction, and issue resolution.
Experience supervising, leading, and mentoring students or student groups from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a strong analytical mindset to interpret data and insights for decision-making.
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a positive and respectful attitude.
Knowledge of current trends in social media marketing and ability to stay updated with industry standards.
Minimum of three years of experience and fluency in social media platforms including Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.
Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills; able to meet deadlines and follow timelines.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
Ability to follow all university policies and guidelines including safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies.
Commitment to contributing to a positive university experience and to the university's vision of excellence.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university and two years of related professional or technical experience required.
Experience in film, communications, marketing, digital media, or related field preferred.
Progressively responsible professional and/or technical experience in media production, social media management, and photography/videography editing preferred.
Physical Summary Medium work – Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.
Licenses Possess or be eligible to possess a valid CA Driver's License required.

Compensation & Classification CSU Classification Salary Range:
The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,146 - $7,500 per month. Time Base: 1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week. CSUEU: Effective 10/1/2025, a new salary step structure and job classifications will be implemented under the CSU-CSUEU Agreement. Job duties will remain unchanged; however, this position may be assigned to a new classification with an updated salary range. Employees will be notified of any changes. Duration of Appointment This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
