Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
Practice Family Medicine within Hawai`i Pacific Health and the Hawai`i Pacific Health Medical Group
Provides full scope family medicine direct patient care and teaching across clinical settings as negotiated with the Department Chair (e.g. inpatient, outpatient, newborn nursery, maternity care, nursing home care, home visits)
Participates in the precepting of residents and other learners in the Family Medicine outpatient and inpatient setting
Shares in the faculty call schedule, precepting, and the hospital service rotation and/or maternity/newborn care
Serves as a practicing family physician and is responsible for generating revenue through patient care
Teaching
Train and mentor medical students and residents
Curriculum development; contributes to the organization and administration of educational or training experiences for medical students, residents, or fellows
Actively participates in the JABSOM M.D. program including: Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tutor in MS1/MS2 curriculum, clinical teaching (inpatient and outpatient), MS3/MS4 curriculum, and OSCE evaluation
Actively participates in the Family Medicine Residency program including: resident-faculty advisor, clinical competency committee (CCC), curriculum committees, weekly didactics, and department-related community outreach
Research
Strengthen family medicine research in the innovative delivery of health care in Hawai‘i. Programs may include quality improvement, patient safety, patient outcomes, translational research, and clinical service programs
Conduct research in incumbent’s area of expertise
Other scholarly duties as assigned
Leadership
Work with the Department Chair to strengthen academic family medicine in the areas of faculty development and mentoring, competency-based medical education, premedical, undergraduate medical education (UME), and graduate medical education (GME) program evaluation, research, and operations
Develop a robust professional development program for clinical faculty
Assist with the maintenance of accreditation standards set by LCME and ACGME for Family Medicine and Sports Medicine education based within UH JABSOM and its clinical affiliates
Serve as a department leader, while interfacing with community and related organizations, and nurturing collaborative partnerships that facilitate achievement of the department’s and JABSOM’s missions and goals
Service
Serve on University, JABSOM and/or affiliated hospital committees

Minimum
Qualifications
MD degree or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school
Maintaining certification by the American Board of Family Medicine
Eligible for or currently holds a Hawai‘i Medical license
Eligible for an appointment in good standing to Pali Momi Medical Center and/or Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children
Appropriate inpatient medicine and procedural skills
Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care relating to full scope of Family Medicine
Experience working with multicultural and underserved patient populations
Minimum of four (4) years at the rank of Assistant professor or four (4) years of other medical experience or minimum of one year at the rank of Associate Professor at another accredited medical school
Proven ability to teach medical students, residents, or fellows
Evidence of excellent patient care in a collaborative environment
Evidence of effective research and scholarly activity (i.e., recent publications in peer-reviewed journals or regional/national presentations), or medical education administration
Experience in academic and/or clinical program administration
Evidence of excellent team building and interpersonal skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience functioning in a complex system of multiple organizations and stakeholders
Familiarity with ACGME Family Medicine requirements
