New York and Northeast Regional Manager, Policy Strategist, State and Local, Government Affairs and Public Policy Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team works with policymakers, regulators, and third-party stakeholders to navigate public policy. We are advisors who analyze and react to political developments, aiming to advance Google's mission by shaping the policy landscape at the state and local levels.

As the lead Policy Strategist for New York and the Northeast states, you will shape technology policy in a dynamic region. You will develop and execute sophisticated legislative and regulatory strategies on issues impacting Google, including artificial intelligence, data privacy, content moderation, energy, competition, cybersecurity, privacy, and the future of work. This role requires understanding the legislative process, performing detailed policy analysis, redlining legislation, and engaging directly with policymakers and staff to achieve objectives. You will need to know the levers of government and how to use them to protect and advance an open and innovative internet.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $182,000–$249,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay within the range is determined by location and factors such as job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Responsibilities

Monitor, analyze, and interpret state legislation and regulations primarily in New York and across other Northeast states, focusing on AI, data privacy, content moderation, and energy policy.

Develop and execute policy strategies to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes, including drafting legislative language, preparing expert testimony, and creating policy briefs.

Engage directly with elected officials, committee staff, and executive agency personnel to advocate Google's policy positions.

Serve as an internal expert advising business and product teams on the implications of emerging state policies.

Build and maintain relationships with policy opinion formers, trade associations, and third-party allies to support regulatory goals.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

10 years of experience in technology policy, law, or regulatory affairs within government, public interest groups, or the technology industry.

Experience in state-level technology policy issues, such as AI, privacy, and competition.

Experience analyzing, drafting, and redlining state legislation.

Preferred qualifications

Experience in state government or leading policy strategy for corporations or third-party organizations.

Experience staffing and managing executives, with excellent leadership and collaboration skills.

Ability to integrate public policy with business strategy and corporate development.

Track record of successful regulatory agreements and policy achievement within New York state legislative and executive branches.
