Join the nurse management team at one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals. UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital seeks a dynamic Unit Director for the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). This role oversees all nursing and administrative operations for these specialized inpatient units, ensuring the highest standards of care for young patients. The Unit Director is accountable for the overall administrative planning and coordination of staffing, fiscal, and material resources. In collaboration with the Director of Pediatric Critical Care Services, the Unit Director will develop and implement processes to ensure quality patient care practices. This role also serves as a model for nursing practice and utilizes nursing and leadership theories to guide practice and clinical quality, promoting collaborative decision-making and shared governance. The Unit Director will represent nursing units on interdisciplinary committees, addressing patient satisfaction, quality improvement, workflow efficiencies, and clinical information systems. As a people leader, the Unit Director will mentor nurse leaders (Assistant Unit Directors) and approve leadership development plans. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on factors including work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is an 18-bed unit serving critically ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (CTCU) is a 12-bed unit specializing in care for acutely ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects. Patients are admitted via the nurse-managed Transport Team and Access Center for care provided at UCSF Medical Center or through direct referrals for specialized surgical care. Nurses and nursing leaders are integral to the interdisciplinary team, supporting families while maintaining vital functions for these fragile patients. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Nursing Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a related area (pediatric, cardiac, transitional, OR intensive care) Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership (supervisory/management) in an inpatient nursing unit Registered Nurse in the State of California American Heart Association CPR for Health Care Providers American Heart Association PALS Strong hospital management experience with in-depth expertise in patient care services; knowledge of hospital/clinic operations Excellent communications and interpersonal skills for collaborative decision-making across units Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills; ability to foster teamwork and achieve objectives Knowledge of healthcare information technology and patient care workflows Understanding of regulatory, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant area CCRN Leadership Certification License/Certification
