Under administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Director, the Site Medical Director is responsible for promoting and providing high-quality medical care. Works collegially with the Regional Medical Director, other physicians, physician extenders (e.g., physician assistants, nurse practitioners), dentists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other medical professionals at the site. Participates in discussions on quality of care, patient safety, and patient complaints/grievances. Maintains utilization management and clinical practice standards through the organization’s clinical criteria. Participates in the development of medical/clinical policies and provides case consultation when asked. Maintains the highest level of medical quality and service and represents the organization’s clinical philosophy to patients, providers, facility personnel, and the community. Utilizes the electronic medical record system as applicable. Participate in Clinical Case/Disease Management initiatives and treat difficult-to-manage patients with chronic disease. Review cases for Collegial Review and prepare/present cases for off-site/specialty care. Ensure no backlogs for chronic care clinics and sick calls; supervise infirmary rounds and review care plans for patients returning from hospitalizations or off-site care. Review and sign-off on labs daily. Provide clinical supervision for staff physicians and mid-level providers at the site. Collaborate with the site manager to ensure effective patient care and respond to guidance from Corporate, State-wide, Regional Medical Directors and Site Managers. Address medical grievances with assistance from Site Managers; communicate with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists for holistic care. Communicate clinical and administrative issues to Site Manager and Regional Medical Director; develop corrective action plans with Site and Regional leadership. Perform death and case reviews; conduct peer reviews with other facilities’ Medical Directors/providers. Participate in monthly reviews of off-site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practice, laboratory, and x-ray services in coordination with statewide leaders. Meet with the Warden/AWP regularly and maintain good working relationships with security. Assist staffing in provider recruiting initiatives and participate in provider training and audits. Ensure site clinical coverage; share in after-hours and weekend call duties. Perform other duties as assigned by State-wide and Regional Medical Directors. The duties and responsibilities listed are for payroll purposes; employees may be assigned other duties as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS

LICENSURE:

Current West Virginia Medical license; Current West Virginia Controlled Substance license; Current DEA CERTIFICATION:

Current CPR certification required; CCHP certification preferred EDUCATION:
