Overview
The Baltimore Sun seeks an experienced Politics Editor to lead our politics team, driving ambitious coverage of state, local and national issues. The role oversees a team focused on watchdog reporting, government accountability and the influence of money in politics, with coverage centered on how policies impact Marylanders. Responsibilities
Oversee the editorial direction of our political coverage, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and timely reporting on political events and developments. Edit political articles, analyses, and features filed by reporters, ensuring clarity, accuracy, balance, and appropriate tone. Respond quickly to breaking political news, coordinating coverage across platforms to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging reporting. Collaborate with other departments, including digital, video, and graphics teams, to ensure that political stories are effectively presented across all formats. Keep a pulse on audience preferences, making sure that political content resonates with readers and engages them across both traditional print and digital channels. Handle any sensitive political issues or editorial challenges, offering strategic guidance to ensure responsible and balanced reporting. Use audience analytics and news judgment to inform content decisions and engagement strategies. Occasionally write analyses and other content as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of experience as an editor or producer at a news publication; daily or weekly journalism experience strongly preferred. Prior managerial or supervisory experience required Excellent knowledge of SEO and digital strategies. Proven ability to work quickly and accurately using a Web-based content management system. Must be willing and able to work irregular hours and holidays as necessary Salary Range:
$90,000 - $115,000 Individual compensation may vary from the target range based on several factors, such as experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. Application Submission
