The Managing Editor collaborates with and reports to the editorial director to oversee the editorial process for Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street Magazine—as well as various other editorial products, including books and digital content—from initial content planning to final publication. This includes coordinating content creation, ensuring quality and consistency across platforms, and coordinating editorial workflows. Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the Editorial Director to plan content and maintain editorial calendars. Oversees the magazine production process, coordinating with the production manager to ensure adherence to deadlines and quality standards. Coordinates with editorial staff, freelancers and contributors, providing guidance and feedback. Ensures consistency in style, quality and voice across content. Coordinates with design, marketing and other departments to align content strategy with overall brand objectives. Reviews, edits and approves content at various stages of production, including fact-checking and copyfitting. Manages the workflow of content through various stages, including initial drafts, revisions, and final proofreading. Assists in the generation of ideas for recurring sections and needs. Coordinates communication with external contributors, such as science contributors and copy editors. Manages internal proofing as the magazine proceeds through production. Additional Tasks:

Organizes and participates in regular meetings, including photo, testing, editorial and planning meetings. Organizes and tracks all magazine content through production lifecycle. Assists Recipe Editor as needed to write assignment memos and obtain necessary approvals. Manages edits and proofing during layout and inputs corrections. Manages communication regarding magazine testing and sidebar content. Writes explanatory testing and sidebar content for the magazine. Writes and creates editorial surveys. Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in daily or magazine journalism. Proven experience as a managing editor or in a similar editorial role with three to five years experience. Exceptional editorial and writing skills, with a strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational and communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. Fluency with content management systems, Adobe InCopy and related software. Familiarity with AI and ways to use it to streamline editorial processes. Knowledge of AP Style. Passion and interest in food, travel and cooking strongly encouraged. Benefits Offered:

Semi-monthly This is a full-time Monday-through-Friday position. Milk Street’s office is located in Boston, MA. This position is a hybrid position that requires 2-3 days in the Boston office.
