The Manager of People Communications is a key member of American’s Global Engagement team, which includes the airline’s Corporate Communications function. In this role, you’ll serve as a strategic communications consultant and hands-on executor, supporting the airline’s People organization — including Talent, Benefits, Compensation, and other HR functions — to deliver clear, compelling, and actionable messaging to team members across the enterprise

You’ll help bring to life the company’s commitment to creating a workplace where team members feel cared for, supported, and empowered. Whether it’s launching new HR programs, amplifying stories of our people, or helping leaders communicate change, you’ll play a vital role in connecting our People strategy to the team member experience

What you’ll do This list reflects the current scope of the role, though responsibilities may evolve based on business needs.

Serve as a communications advisor to People team leaders, helping shape messaging strategies that support key People initiatives

Translate complex HR programs and policies into clear, engaging communications for team members and leaders

Develop and execute tactical communications plans across multiple channels (email, intranet, video, events, etc.)

Partner with internal stakeholders to support initiatives such as talent development, benefits, and performance management

Create toolkits, talking points, and other resources to equip leaders with what they need to communicate effectively with their teams

Source, craft, and share compelling stories that highlight the impact of People programs — showcasing team member experiences, leadership voices, and moments of pride and inspiration across internal and external platforms

Support enterprise-wide events and campaigns that reinforce American’s culture and values, including town halls and engagement activations

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Corporate Communications, Talent & Culture, and Operations to ensure alignment and consistency

Mentor junior team members and contribute to a high-performing, collaborative communications team

All you’ll need for success Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or relevant field

5 years relevant work experience in communications in a corporate or agency setting

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

Previous experience communicating corporate HR programs

Previous experience effectively leading teams, internal and external partners, connecting workgroups and teams to ensure strategies and impacts are clearly understood

Demonstrated media relations experience with a proven track record of proactively sourcing and pitching stories to trade publications and/or traditional media outlets, with a focus on elevating HR initiatives and company culture

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

Is relentlessly hardworking, with a passion for thriving in high-volume environments, and excels at juggling multiple projects at one time

Writes like a pro and manages media with ease

Thinks critically and exhibits a “no surprises” and “no stone left unturned” mentality

Collaborates effectively with other managers and department leadership

Embraces/adopts American’s Leadership Model and Leadership Attributes
