Position Title: Director of Finance / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Location: Hoboken, NJ (Hybrid) Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 annually Schedule: Full-time | On-site first 90 days; Hybrid (2 days on-site, 3 days remote) thereafter Are you a strategic finance leader ready to make a difference in the nonprofit sector?

A dynamic and impactful nonprofit organization headquartered in Hoboken, NJ is seeking an experienced and mission-driven

Director of Finance / Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

to lead its finance function. With an annual operating budget of approximately $30 million and over ten independent programs—including significant federal and state-funded initiatives—this role is critical in driving financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategic growth. This is an opportunity to influence meaningful community programs while leading a team of dedicated finance professionals and shaping the financial future of a respected nonprofit organization. Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all financial operations including accounting, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audit preparation, grants management, and cash flow planning.

Supervise and mentor a finance team of 8 (1 Manager, 2 Supervisors, 5 Specialists).

Manage multi-source funding including federal/state government contracts, private grants, and real estate-related finances.

Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including funders and regulatory bodies.

Develop, maintain, and monitor program and organizational budgets, ensuring compliance with nonprofit regulations and grant requirements.

Provide leadership in continuous improvement of financial systems and processes, including development of financial business plans and risk management strategies.

Oversee compliance with all legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements including those tied to government grants and programs such as Head Start.

Serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team, board, and program leadership to support data-driven decision-making.

Coordinate and lead audits, tax filings, and other external financial reviews.

Represent the organization with banks, funders, auditors, and other financial partners.

Travel occasionally (3 times per year) for conferences and professional engagements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are a hands-on financial executive with deep nonprofit experience and a track record of managing complex budgets and compliance requirements. You thrive in a mission-focused environment, are a strategic thinker, and possess exceptional leadership and communication skills. Required Qualifications: CPA or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.

Minimum of 5 years in a mid to senior-level financial management role.

Experience with nonprofit accounting including fund accounting, grant management, and federal/state contract compliance.

Proven track record managing a complex budget of $30M+ or demonstrated capacity to grow into that level of responsibility.

Experience with Head Start Program Performance Standards, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and nonprofit cost principles.

Strong analytical and strategic planning capabilities.

Proficiency with accounting systems and financial management tools.

Excellent interpersonal and team leadership abilities.

Ability to navigate a fast-paced, evolving environment while balancing multiple priorities.
