Overview
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a Psychiatrist to join our team for a full-time appointment. CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medications, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well. Responsibilities
Provide medical and psychiatric care to patients at CMHI by consultation, supervision, and direction to CMHI medical staff. Provide clinical supervision of mid-level providers (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner) and develop medical or psychiatric treatment plans in collaboration with mid-level providers. Review treatment plans and provide consultation to the assigned mid-level provider and other disciplines at CMHI. Prepare psychiatric/forensic evaluations for submission to the courts in accordance with deadlines established by statute and/or the courts; prescribe medications and determine when patient referral is necessary; complete medical reports documenting treatment services provided to patients. Provide after-hours coverage as the officer of the day on a rotating schedule with other CMHI medical staff. Provide education, training and/or conference teaching in the areas of psychiatry and/or general medicine; opportunities to provide direction to medical school graduates in CMHI’s psychiatric internship program. Complete a background check as part of the application process. Maintain licensure in Psychiatry. Qualifications
Licensure in Psychiatry is required. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and completion of an internship program. Benefits
