Job Summary
Provide professional services in psychiatry, including psychiatric assessment, consultation, medication management, and referrals for CSULB students.

Key Responsibilities
Provide psychiatric assessments and medication management to students, including initial intake evaluations, follow-ups, formulation of ICD diagnoses, treatment planning, and disposition. Offer medication consultations and interventions as needed.
Provide consultation to CAPS staff, campus SHS providers, CSU faculty/staff, and the public, both in person and via telephone.
Offer psychiatric consultation for the broader campus community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate will have experience in providing comprehensive psychiatric services, including clinical assessment, medication management, crisis intervention, and psychiatric hospitalization, especially within a young adult population. Candidates should have a strong foundation in evidence-based care, safe medication protocols, and effective collaboration with campus health and counseling services to promote mental health, harm reduction, and substance abuse prevention. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for engaging diplomatically with students, staff, faculty, and the community in various settings. A commitment to teamwork, cultural competence, and maintaining respectful working relationships is required. Candidates must demonstrate reliability, adherence to safe practices, and basic computer proficiency to support clinical and administrative tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse campus community and to follow university policies, including safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination. Contributing to a positive student experience and supporting the university's vision of excellence are also important.
Education and Experience
Graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California and completion of residency training in a relevant specialty, with progressively responsible experience in that field.
Licenses / Certificates
Valid California medical license, current medical board certification in psychiatry, valid DEA certificate for prescribing controlled substances, and current CPR/AED certification.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry before starting employment.
CA Driver's License preferred.
Employees operating motorized vehicles more than once a month for university business must complete a Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation
This is an 11/12 month appointment, working 11 months per year and paid over 12 months. Salary depends on education, experience, internal equity, and departmental budget. The CSU salary range is $12,588 - $24,499 per month.

Time Base: 1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week
Duration of Appointment
Temporary position for 1 year, with no permanent status. The appointment may end before the scheduled date.
Physical Demands
Light work involving lifting objects up to 20 pounds and standing/walking for 10-20% of the time.
