The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to individuals with serious mental illness requiring long-term behavioral health treatment. ASH promotes hope and wellness, involving patients in planning, delivering, and evaluating services that support recovery. Treatment is personalized, focusing on education about mental health, instilling hope, and enhancing quality of life.
We offer a range of positions including direct care staff, nurses, behavioral health technicians, social workers, rehabilitation specialists, and security personnel. PSYCHIATRIST Location:

Job Summary: The Psychiatrist will provide inpatient psychiatric care, including diagnostic assessments, medication management, behavioral plan development, and monitoring patient progress. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with outpatient providers, and contributing to hospital policies and procedures.
Job Duties:
Perform diagnostic evaluations, prescribe medications, and monitor patient progress.
Conduct psychiatric assessments and diagnoses for patients committed to ASH.
Lead and oversee the multidisciplinary treatment team in developing and implementing care plans.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals in a recovery-oriented model, including attending hospital and medical staff meetings.
Complete documentation and prepare reports for legal and administrative purposes.
Perform other related duties as assigned (approx. 5-10%).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of:
Standards of psychiatric care, evidence-based treatments, performance management, CQI, and Lean methodologies.
Skills in:
Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic techniques, effective communication, leadership in multidisciplinary teams, organization, and computer literacy.
Abilities to:
Maintain positive working relationships, support diversity, and promote an inclusive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with the seriously mentally ill is highly desirable.
Pre-Employment Requirements: Must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical school, completed a Psychiatry residency, and be board eligible or certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Must hold a valid medical license in Arizona and a Level One fingerprint clearance card or apply within seven days of employment.
Driving or use of a vehicle may be required; if so, a valid driver’s license is necessary.
