Position Overview
The After School Program Director coordinates and directs the Freedom School After-School program at Aggie Academy. This 11-month position involves work planning and providing a daily program of developmentally-appropriate, academically-oriented, nurturing and enriching experiences for school-age children. The employee coordinates program activities under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Schools and school principal. The employee is also responsible for supervising all NCATSU student workers.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit Aggie Academy is a NC A&T Laboratory School established under the North Carolina General Statute Chapter 116, Article 29A (116-239.5), to improve student performance by providing an enhanced education program for students residing in low performing schools. The mission of Aggie Academy is to provide students an integrated STEAM Education experience to improve student achievement and develop critical and creative thinking skills. Cross campus collaborations and the integration of educator and leader preparation, through a practice-based teacher education model (PBTE) provide opportunities for strengthening 3rd - 5th grade student success and educator and leader preparation. Building on the NC A&T historically Black university (HBCU) legacy of exemplary teaching, scholarship and effective public service, the College of Education offers degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. The mission is to prepare highly skilled educators, leaders, and counselors who create, use, and share knowledge on equality, access, and advocacy in local, state, national, and global communities. Work Hours Monday to Friday from 12pm to 7pm

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies Program Administration
Duties include program development: Primarily responsible for ensuring the After-School program provides quality care that expands children's experiences, extends their learning, and provides warm and caring support. Plans, develops, coordinates and directs program activities in coordination with the school principal and the Director of Laboratory Schools; schedules and supervises student workers to facilitate daily set-up and close-down of the program, and to ensure children have access to a variety of developmentally-appropriate program resources, interest centers, and activities; engages in activities with staff and the children. Assists the principal and Director of Laboratory Schools in screening, interviewing, and recommending applicants for hire; facilitates staff training; appraises staff and works with College of Education administration to resolve staff job performance issues; maintains confidentiality of personnel matters. Coordinates special program activities, field trips, and work of community resource persons. Prepares and maintains student, staff, business management, and programming reports, records, and other documents as required by or appropriate to the program's administration.
Supervision
Duties include staff development and supervision: Plans and conducts afterschool staff meetings (debriefings), orients afterschool workers and volunteers, facilitates staff attending required training, and nurtures creativity and professional growth in staff. Facilitates the work of substitutes to cover staff absences and ensures appropriate staff-to-child ratios are maintained.
Communication - Verbal/Written
Verbal & Written Communication: Establishes communication and serves as the primary liaison with parents/legal guardians of students enrolled in the program; informs parents of program activities, procedures, and upcoming events through newsletters and other correspondence, and shares parenting resources. Receives incoming telephone calls, emails and written correspondence and provides information regarding program operations, procedures, and regulations, or routes to appropriate personnel.
Knowledge - Professional
Child Development & Certification: Uses positive reinforcement and developmentally-appropriate guidance techniques and consequences to encourage appropriate behavior, confers with administrators and parents to resolve behavior issues. Adheres to district policies and North Carolina Division of Child Development regulations, and carries out procedures established by Aggie Academy. Maintains current certifications in CPR and First Aid; administers basic first aid and medications, and contacts parents or emergency services in case of a child’s illness or injury. Acts as program liaison with school-day staff, principal, PTA and other school organizations. Attends workshops, classes, seminars, conferences, lectures, etc. to meet state requirements and reviews school-age care resources and professional journals as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in after-school care. May serve as a group leader, assistant group leader, or group leader substitute. Leads, assists, and acts as a role-model participant in both active and sedentary indoor and outdoor lessons, games and activities; may ride on activity bus or commercial motor coach. Attends school functions, serves on school committees, and attends school-sponsored training related to the after-school program. Performs other related work as required.
