Job Description

Job Description Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Molecular Laboratory Technical Supervisor to oversee the operations of our high-throughput molecular laboratory. As a key member of our team, you will manage day-to-day laboratory activities, supervise a team of laboratory technicians, and ensure the efficient and accurate rt-PCR testing of biological samples using advanced molecular techniques such as PCR, qPCR, and automated nucleic acid extraction systems. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines, including COLA requirements for technical supervisors, while maintaining a focus on quality and safety. Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision & Team Leadership: Hire, train, and supervise a team of laboratory technicians and analysts in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment. Provide ongoing training, guidance, and performance evaluations for laboratory staff. Ensure adherence to best laboratory practices, safety protocols, and quality control standards. Molecular Testing & Analysis: Oversee the performance and troubleshooting of analytical techniques, specifically PCR and qPCR (including rt-PCR), for the detection and quantification of nucleic acids in biological samples. Ensure the proper use of automated nucleic acid extraction and liquid handling systems for sample preparation and processing to increase efficiency and throughput. Conduct and review analytical data for accuracy, integrity, and compliance with established protocols. Quality Control & Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., COLA, CLIA, CAP, OSHA) and maintain a high standard of quality control. Regularly review laboratory processes and results to ensure they meet or exceed internal and external quality standards. Implement corrective actions as needed based on quality control findings or incidents. Equipment & Instrumentation: Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and validation of molecular instruments such as thermocyclers and automated extraction systems. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment, collaborating with service providers as necessary. Process Optimization & Efficiency: Continuously assess laboratory workflows and identify opportunities for optimization, aiming to increase throughput while maintaining quality. Implement new technologies or methodologies to improve test accuracy, efficiency, and safety. Documentation & Reporting: Ensure that all laboratory work is properly documented in accordance with regulatory and company guidelines. Generate and review technical reports, test results, and certificates of analysis. Prepare and deliver reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies as required. Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with other departments, including research, development, and quality assurance, to ensure smooth laboratory operations. Act as a liaison between the laboratory team and senior management to report on lab performance, issues, and project status. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field (Master's preferred). Candidates must meet COLA personnel requirements for a technical supervisor in high complexity testing, including appropriate education and at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience or training in molecular diagnostics. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical or reference molecular laboratory with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Extensive hands-on experience with PCR, qPCR (including rt-PCR), and automated nucleic acid extraction systems. Proven ability to lead and manage a team in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment. Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of molecular diagnostics, nucleic acid analysis techniques, and laboratory instrumentation. Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software. Exceptional problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff. Knowledge of regulatory standards (COLA, CLIA, CAP, OSHA, FDA, etc.) and quality assurance practices in molecular labs.
