The Hills is seeking a Construction Accounting Controller to join the Finance and Accounting Department.
The Hills is seeking a Construction Accounting Controller to join the Finance and Accounting Department. We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Construction Accountant to join our finance team. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and supporting the overall financial health of our Construction and Development organization. Key Responsibilities General Ledger Management:
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting principles. Prepare and post journal entries for various financial transactions. Responsible for construction accounting functions and management of processes for construction management entity. Ensure financial operations of the construction department are compliant with company expectations, processes, and controls. Provide oversight and control of internal financial processes Responsible for construction cash management (including reviewing and approving check requests, funds transfers, distribution analysis, recording cash receipts, etc.)
Financial Reporting:
Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Contribute to the preparation of internal and external financial reports. Review and approve monthly owner billings prepared by others Manage project deadlines for billings, month end close, etc. Prepare monthly financial statements
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Support the budgeting and forecasting processes by collaborating with department heads and providing financial insights. Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, providing variance analysis. Prepare revenue and cost forecasts as required
Account Reconciliation:
Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner. Ensure accuracy in bank reconciliations and other critical financial reconciliations. Prepare supporting schedules and journal entries in accordance with monthly reporting. Manage project deadlines for billings, month end close, etc. Oversee A/R and accounts payable function and serve as a back-up as necessary Perform bank reconciliations Help leadership develop an annual budget, prepare performance reports and variance communications.
Fixed Assets Management:
Oversee the fixed assets register, ensuring proper classification, tracking, and depreciation. Conduct periodic reviews and audits of fixed assets.
Expense Management:
Analyze and reconcile various expenses, ensuring compliance with company policies. Process expense reports and oversee reimbursement processes. Maintain and enhance knowledge and competency of company systems (Intacct and Procore) Oversee and review job close procedures
Internal Controls:
Contribute to the development and enhancement of internal control procedures. Monitor compliance with internal control policies and recommend improvements. Manage project compliance documents - Contract and cost/budget compliance
Audit Support:
Oversee and manage project audits Assist in the preparation of schedules and documentation for internal and external audits. Address auditor inquiries and support the resolution of audit findings.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA certification is a plus.
Experience:
8 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software. Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards for construction. Familiar with construction WIP schedules. Knowledge and recent use of Intacct software (preferred.) Knowledge and recent use of Procore software (preferred.)
Attention to Detail:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data handling. Ability to identify and rectify errors. Organizing and prioritizing. Ability to meet deadlines.
Communication:
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate with team members and other departments.
Adaptability:
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks. Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
