Position Title: Plumbing Estimator & Project Manager

Reports To: Vice President of Ames Mechanical

Position Summary

The Plumbing Estimator & Project Manager plays a key role in the successful planning, coordination, and execution of plumbing projects. This position is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, preparing estimates, awarding subcontracts, and supporting field operations to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, this role involves managing communication with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams, while monitoring project costs, schedules, and compliance with standards.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for both hard bid and negotiated plumbing projects.
  • Break down estimates for job costing prior to project commencement.
  • Obtain necessary municipal approvals, permits, and licenses.
  • Generate and submit timely monthly invoices.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate modifications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare and document change orders as needed.
  • Review and manage job costs-to-date and forecast costs-to-complete.
  • Award subcontracts and complete material buyouts for awarded projects.
  • Approve subcontractor and supplier invoices.
  • Provide drawings, scopes of work, shop drawings, and specifications to field personnel in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate material lead times with supervisors and the project team.
  • Address challenges reported by Plumbing Supervisors and provide assistance as needed.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date project files, including key documents and correspondence.
  • Manage warranty communication, close-out documentation, and post-project follow-up.
  • Maintain and update a list of qualified subcontractors and vendors.
  • Support sales efforts by providing estimating input and project insights for client presentations.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of plumbing estimating and project management experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and perform under pressure.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical specifications and blueprints.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
