Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technician – Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA

This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Specialist 4 and is a fully qualified HVAC Technician responsible for performing journey level maintenance work required to accomplish all phases of building maintenance and construction work. This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

The incumbent of this position is responsible to independently perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of all phases of heating, ventilation, and cooling.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance of HVAC related duties.
  • Performs inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Operates, inspects, maintains, repairs, removes and/or installs heating/cooling system components including: compressors, belts, bearings, motors, fans, heat exchangers, burners, filters, and controls.
  • Responsible for repairing heat pumps and air conditioning systems.
  • Performs inspections, maintenance, and repair of hot water boiler systems.

Performs emergency, routine and safety work orders related to HVAC.

Responsible to order materials as required related to HVAC installation and maintenance requirements.

Required Qualifications

Journey level standing as a refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by:

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades, OR
  • Full journey level status in Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, OR
  • Five years of experience in refrigeration and/or steamfitter's trade, OR
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute year-for-year for the experience requirement for up to two years of the experience requirement.

Desi red Qualifications

Certification/License:

  • 06A Electrical License or Training Card.
  • Universal CFC Recovery Certification.

Knowledge of:

  • Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades and HVAC work.
  • Principles of operation of HVAC systems.
  • Occupational hazards and safety practices of the HVAC trade.

Conditions of Employment

Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance. Background checks can take up to six months; failure to pass may be cause for termination.

Union Shop Provision: This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).

Driver’s License

  • Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
  • Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.

Military Facility

Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation. Camp Murray and Fairchild AFB utilize the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry. Must meet access requirements/background check which can be found in the Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver’s License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.

Work Hours

Standard work schedule: Monday - Thursday (4/10 schedule) 6:00am - 4:30pm.

Telework

This position is not eligible for telework.

Emergency Assignment

Upon activation of SEOC or JFO, incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.

Travel

Occasional statewide travel may be required up to 5% to include overnight stays.
