Assistant or Associate Curator for Native American Art
The Minneapolis Institute of Art is seeking an Assistant or Associate Curator of Native American Art to develop, research, exhibit, and publish Mia’s collections of Native American art.
The Job
The successful candidate will interpret the museum’s collections of Native American art, conduct research and mount special exhibitions, oversee the care and preservation of the collection, locate and propose acquisition of Native American works of art, and develop and coordinate lectures and activities pertaining to Native American art.
- Interpret the museum’s collections of Native American art through permanent collection gallery displays and didactic materials.
- Conduct research and mount special exhibitions with accompanying publications.
- Oversee the care and preservation of the collection.
- Locate, research, and propose acquisition of Native American works of art.
- Develop and coordinate lectures and activities pertaining to Native American art.
- Actively participate in broader museum initiatives.

Specific Requirements
- M.A. in Art History with specialization in Native American art & culture; Ph.D. desirable.
- Proficiency in applicable languages.
- Minimum of 3 years of employment in a collection-based curatorial department with direct experience in Native American art.
- Demonstrated ability to write interpretive material and significant art historical research skills.
- Ability to travel 15-20%.
