AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Philadelphia on October 9-10, 2025. This is a great opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026. The event begins Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines. On Friday, interviews will take place at our Philadelphia office.

The Civil Engineering Department of AECOM’s Transportation Business Line is actively seeking an Entry-Level Civil / Highway Engineers to be based in our Newark, DE office. Under the supervision of a Project Engineer, the appropriately qualified applicant will be part of a design team responsible for designing small to large-scale highway projects such as roadway rehabilitation and safety improvement projects, intersection improvements and optimizations, interstate and limited-access highway widening and reconstruction. Design responsibilities include horizontal and vertical geometry, pavement design, 3D modeling, intersections and interchanges design, traffic control and staging, signing and pavement markings design, ADA, Pedestrian and Bicycle design. Current notable projects include Airport Road Extension in Rehoboth Beach, DE; SR1 and Cave Neck Road Grade Separated Interchange in Milton, DE; and SR8 and Chestnut Grove–Nault Road Intersection Improvements in Dover, DE.

This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining and reviewing existing information including some field work and site investigations.
  • Originating technical calculations that advance the design of the project.
  • Assisting in the development of roadway construction, intersection grading, traffic control, and signing and pavement marking.
  • Developing 3D models using civil engineering software such as Bentley OpenRoads Designer or Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical reports and project specifications.
  • Performs work under supervision in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Very familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam or ability to take in the next 6 months.
  • Some experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other civil engineering–related software (Civil 3D, OpenRoads).
  • Previous work experience or internship with engineering firms, contractors, or DOTs involved in highway design, construction, management, or other transportation-related projects.

  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in-office work in Newark, DE. The selected candidate must be available to work in Newark, DE on a scheduled basis.

Compensation

Compensation: $68,000 per year
