The Greater Philadelphia and New Jersey Markets are actively seeking experienced Interior Designers for our Marlton and Princeton, New Jersey teams. As a vertically integrated manufacturer and retailer of home furnishings and accessories, we serve the interior design and Architecture and Design trade community. The ideal candidate is driven, works well in a team, and is passionate about design and sales. This role supports operating an interior design business within our proven program, including service, installation, and delivery across the country. This position is full time, on site, and does require weekends.

General Objectives:

  • An Ethan Allen Design Professional works with returning clients and new retail traffic in the design studio, remotely, online, and in the home to create individualized design solutions using Ethan Allen products and services.
  • Scope of work includes space planning, fabric coordination, product selection, and overall residential project design. Successful execution is demonstrated by developing individualized designs and achieving performance goals in a flexible, relationship-based selling environment.
  • Designers are evaluated on performance categories including teamwork, customer service, communication, decision making, project development, presentation, and technical skills.
  • Professionals develop connections in the community and market themselves across multiple channels, including to the trade and related industries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create design solutions that align with the customer’s preferences and budget.
  • Sell Ethan Allen products and services.
  • Represent the Ethan Allen brand in all customer interactions. Professionally greet customers in the design center to establish rapport and obtain appointments and in-home consultations. Make home calls to evaluate customer needs and provide total individualized design solutions that close the sale.
  • Utilize grassroots marketing and various social media platforms to grow the business.
  • Educate customers about the complimentary design service offered by Ethan Allen, providing as much or as little design service as desired.
  • Stay current on design and color trends to create fashionable design solutions.
  • Coordinate with the team to provide exceptional service to customers before and after the sale, keeping customers informed of order status and delays.
  • Participate in corporate sponsored marketing and training programs as required.
  • Educate customers on Ethan Allen sponsored finance options.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of the design center portfolio.
  • Utilize corporate systems and technology to maximize efficiency in designing projects, creating presentations, and delivering professional service for the design team’s customers.
  • Enter orders using the retail point of sale system.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly design center environment.
  • Work with the Design Center Leader/Design Sales Leader and Design Consultants to develop business and grass roots marketing plans to extend market reach and exceed goals; monitor effectiveness and adjust as needed.
  • Use technology such as 3-D Room Planner, CRM, Live Chat, and other tools to build project volume and client relationships.
  • Leverage appropriate social media to enhance personal and Ethan Allen presence; build a market network through platforms like LinkedIn.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a design-related field, or five years of related experience.
  • Broad knowledge of interior design and effective sales techniques; luxury retail experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of online sales and design tools.
  • Strong listening, oral, and written communication skills.
  • General understanding of how to use social media and grass-roots marketing to build a book of business; proven experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, with availability of a workable alternative transportation plan if needed.
  • Proficiency with digital floor planning and 3D rendering tools is a plus.
  • Experience with interactive technologies to view design concepts (AR/VR and other visualization tools).
  • Willing and able to learn new technologies.

Pay Transparency:

  • This position offers a minimum annual recoverable draw of $54,400 paid biweekly.
  • Pay is incentive-based with total earnings determined by monthly net retail revenue and design project orders; associates are expected to meet or exceed defined standards.
  • This role has unlimited earning potential with a draw-based pay structure; actual compensation is based on performance. Average earnings: $101,286.88 (NJ, 2023).
