Job Story
The NIAR AMP lab at Wichita State University is seeking a motivated and reliable Student Assistant to support the Production Team in the Advanced Machining and Prototyping (AMP) Lab.

Responsibilities

• Create basic toolpaths and NC programs using Mastercam for standard machining operations.
• Operate CNC machines under the supervision of full-time production staff. Assist with part setup, tool loading, and machine monitoring during operation.
• Follow safety procedures and shop protocols at all times.
• Perform machine maintenance tasks such as cleaning and chip removal as needed.
• Organize and maintain tools, fixtures, and raw materials for active work orders.
• Support documentation of job travelers, tool lists, and machine runtime logs. Communicate clearly with production and engineering teams regarding work status.
• Other duties as assigned to support production efficiency and schedule adherence.

Required Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Additional Requirements

• Familiarity with manufacturing or machine shop environments.
• Interest in CNC machining or mechanical engineering.
• Basic understanding of technical drawings and CAD/CAM software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Wichita State University.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain in a stationary position.
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
• Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
