Overview

HOUSEKEEPING SUPERVISOR — Norfolk, VA. Supervise day-to-day operations of 3 to 10 housekeeping staff in university residence halls and apartments to ensure regularly scheduled routines and assignments are completed on a daily basis, within budgeted resources, and that an acceptable level of cleanliness is maintained. Position is designated “essential personnel” for emergency closings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day housekeeping operations and staff in buildings assigned.
  • Ensure completion of regularly scheduled routines and assignments on a daily basis.
  • Manage resources within budgeted limits and maintain acceptable cleanliness standards in University Residence Halls and Apartments.
  • Review daily reports, compile information, and follow up on work plans to ensure timely completion.

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of housekeeping procedures, equipment, and products and their application.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize housekeeping activities; review daily reports; follow up on work plans; and solve problems.
  • Ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills (oral & written).

Special licenses, registrations or certifications

  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

Education or training

None

Experience

  • Considerable experience supervising housekeeping personnel; experience organizing and planning housekeeping activities; experience developing and maintaining program procedures and policies.
  • Considerable experience operating standard housekeeping equipment; experience in the use and application of chemicals such as germicides, disinfectants and caustic solutions. Education may be substituted for experience.

Additional Considerations

  • Advanced training in housekeeping and related areas of the housekeeping field.
  • Considerable housekeeping experience as a supervisor in dormitories, apartments, motels, etc.

Conditions of Employment

  • Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings.
  • This position is an open until filled recruitment. Recruitment may close after the five-day posting period when a suitable pool of applicants is generated.

Salary

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
