Programmer/Business Analyst – Job Description

This is a full-time, onsite position located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY.
About the Role
The Programmer/Business Analyst (P/BA) will work closely with stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into precise functional specifications. This role manages projects end-to-end, from requirements definition through delivery, using structured methodologies (e.g., Agile) and modern development tools. The P/BA will collaborate across business units and with external vendors, ensuring clear communication, timely progress updates, and appropriate escalation of issues. They will also help shape a medium-term (1–2 year) technology roadmap that prioritizes key initiatives and system enhancements.
Primary Focus Areas
Lead system implementations and upgrades, ensuring full adoption of functionalities.
Optimize and automate core business processes (e.g., reporting, route optimization, account management).
Strengthen integrations between operational systems and financial platforms.
Deliver business intelligence dashboards and reporting tools to support decision-making.
Streamline workflows to improve efficiency across accounting, reporting, and operational processes.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, integrate, and support third-party and internal systems.
Troubleshoot issues, analyze processes, and validate data quality.
Create high-quality documentation: requirements, system designs, process flows, test cases, and training materials.
Collaborate with senior team members to configure and test software solutions.
Support change management efforts and user adoption of new applications.
Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and risk awareness in all deliverables.
Education & Experience
BS in Business, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
5–7 years’ experience as a Systems Architect, Business Analyst, or similar role with strong technical skills, preferably with a cloud-based application focus.
Demonstrated decision-making ability, sound judgment, and strong planning skills.
Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
Requirements
Proficiency in workflow automation, data warehousing, and business intelligence (BI) reporting solutions.
Proven ability to design end-to-end system solutions (front-end interfaces, functional programming, middleware, database design) with built-in auditing, disaster recovery, backup/restore, and performance optimization across cloud infrastructure (memory, storage, CPU).
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver results.

Databases: MySQL, MSSQL
APIs & Integrations: Google API, Platts API, Talend ESB
ETL & Data Management: ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), Reporting tools
DevOps & Workflow: Jenkins, cloud-based infrastructure
Desired Skills
Industry experience in energy or related sectors, with exposure to risk management, financial reporting systems, and general ledger processes.
Experience applying Agile or hybrid project management methodologies in technology and business initiatives.
