UTHealth Houston's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department is hiring for a Dental Assistant I/II to join their team of professionals. The Dental Assistant will be responsible for assisting faculty and residents with surgical procedures under various types of anesthesia (i.e. local, Nitrous Oxide, and/or Moderate IV Sedation), rooming patients, and taking dental x-rays such as CBCTs, Panoramic, Periapical single tooth, admin duties such as returning phone calls and patient portal messages in a timely manner, and more. The ideal candidate will have EPIC experience. DAANCE Certified and Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Inhalation Conscious Sedation Certification are both a plus! Position Summary: Perform routine tasks assisting the professional dental staff and students in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works under direct supervision. Position Key Accountabilities: Assists in the teaching of dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students in the principles of four-handed dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU). Provides chair side assistance to students and faculty. Maintains sterile, and prepares equipment, instruments, and supplies within working area. Maintains infection control standards. Maintains records of patients seen, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments. Must be able to respond to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills: Basic office or computer skills. Dental Assistant by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program preferred Minimum Experience: None Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
