Overview

The Nurse Manager leads a team of professional health care providers, fosters collaboration, and supports the nursing professional practice model. This role functions as a key member of the health care team that provides patient care and supportive services in an in-patient setting, aiming to achieve positive patient care outcomes, maximize patient involvement in their plan of care, improve service levels, reduce length of hospitalization, and decrease costs. The span of control is based on unit capacity, unit complexity, and FTE oversight, and will align with evidence on patient satisfaction, quality and safety as well as staff engagement and resilience. Position Summary
The Nurse Manager oversees plans, organizes, manages and evaluates patient care operations for designated areas on a 24-hour basis. It includes planning and developing strategic short-, mid- and long-term goals and processes to enhance unit operations in support of the Medical Centers mission, vision and values. Responsibilities include evaluating progress toward goals; managing, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of patient care staff; promoting collaboration with other patient care departments; developing and managing unit budgets; identifying cost-saving opportunities; participating in the development of evidence-based standards of practice; and identifying opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes. The role involves leadership in identifying and correcting factors contributing to problematic outcomes. Responsibilities Plan, organize, manage and evaluate patient care operations for designated areas on a 24-hour basis. Develop and manage short-, mid- and long-term goals to enhance unit operations; monitor progress and outcomes. Lead, coach, and evaluate the performance of patient care staff; foster collaboration with related departments. Develop, administer, and manage unit budgets; identify and implement cost-saving initiatives. Contribute to the development of evidence-based standards of practice; pursue continuous improvement in patient care and processes. Identify and address factors contributing to adverse outcomes to improve quality and safety.
Minimum Qualifications for Hire
Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required; Masters degree in Nursing or related field is preferred. Current Ohio RN license. Minimum of three to five years of clinical and management experience in a relevant care setting. Holds a current certification in nursing administration or area of clinical expertise; or certification must be achieved within the timeline of eligibility.
