JOB DESCRIPTION: Coordinator of Faith Formation (CFF)
$25.48 per hour + Benefits
Making disciples is the foundational reason the church exists. Many parishes work from a child-centered model of faith formation, with the rites of initiation being the goal. This means there is rarely enough focus or resources available for the formation of adult disciples. Blessed Sacrament is different: we are located in Hollywood, where the demographic tilts heavily towards single young adults, so our programming must as well. Yes, we prepare children for sacraments of initiation, but devising formation programming for the unchurched and the de-churched is the primary focus of the ministry.
As a member of the Pastoral Team, the Coordinator of Faith Formation plans, develops, organizes, and evaluates the Faith Formation Program for the Parish. The programming focus will be on the formation and equipping of disciples.
Essential Responsibilities
Facilitates experiences that foster authentic encounters with Jesus Christ.
Directs and oversees various faith formation programs that support a lifelong deepening of the Catholic faith for all parishioners.
Develops goals, objectives, and implements strategies for a comprehensive faith formation program that serves Pre-K through adults, including preparation for sacraments.
Is responsible for the recruitment, orientation, and training of volunteers/catechists to conduct the parishs catechetical programs, as well as ensuring they meet Archdiocesan requirements (VIRTUS, fingerprinting)
Evaluates existing faith formation programs and makes recommendations to the Pastor.
Promotes programs and provides material for the parish newsletter / Facebook, and website

with weekly updates. Where possible, align faith formation activities and events with ongoing and/or emerging events/initiatives led by parish ministries and groups. Keeps current in developments/changes with Diocesan policies as they relate to formation and sacramental practices. Prepares annual formation program budget for review by the Finance Council and oversees programmatic expenditures. Develops an accurate statistical picture of the sacramental prep efforts at Blessed Sacrament and submits reports to the Pastor and Parish Pastoral Council as requested. Attends & participates in monthly pastoral team meetings. Attends & participates in quarterly off-site pastoral team meetings. Takes lead in preparing for Sacramental celebrations Attends regional meetings convened by the Diocesan Office of Catechetical Ministry. Attends diocesan Ministry/Catechetical Congress; attends appropriate workshops and Professional Development Days. Organizes logistics and coordinates with Faith Formation volunteers to chaperone a full-day field trip to Youth Day, hosted by RECongress. Keeps credentials current for diocesan certification as a Catechetical Leader. Build upon the youth ministry program that is starting in summer 2025 Additional Job Functions: Commits to being an active member and Servant Leader, and creates a sense of connection and belonging to the Blessed Sacrament community. Performs any other job-related duties as necessary for the smooth flow of work in the department and/or as assigned by the Pastor. Must Haves Must be able to thrive in a team environment. And able to build and launch teams in formation programming. Ability to form volunteers into leaders and then delegate responsibility. Ability to initiate, be creative, and anticipate solutions to problems, needs good judgment in emergency situations and when working with varied personalities and cultures; must be able to work under frequent interruptions. Possesses excellent planning, organizational, and collaborative skills. Practicing Catholic with some knowledge and training in Theology and Liturgy in the Roman Catholic tradition. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus the ability to work well with others. Computer literacy, excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain accurate fiscal records, budgetary, and statistical data. Ability to interact with individuals and groups and maintain appointments and meetings on parish grounds. Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to travel as required. Nice to have, but can learn on the job Working knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in the documents of Vatican Council II, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and other relevant Church and Catechetical Documents. Knowledge of the OCIA/OICA Process and a thorough understanding of the OCIA/OICA text. Some knowledge of the multi-cultural dimensions of catechesis. Working knowledge of management, supervision, and administration; knows the needs and resources of the parish community; and has updated knowledge of educational and catechetical trends and practices. Minimum Qualifications Degree in theology, pastoral studies, religious education, or a related field (Masters Degree preferred). Three years of formation experience in a parish or diocesan position. Related degrees and comparable experience will be considered. Must be bilingual with writing skills in English and Spanish. Job Type Full-time non-exempt position, 40 hours per week. Some weekend and holiday work will be required. Located at Blessed Sacrament Parish on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. A background check and Safe Environment training are required of all parishemployees and volunteers. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications for the position.
