About the Opportunity
Operating in the utility infrastructure and civil engineering services sector, our client delivers dry-utility installation, engineering and project delivery across commercial and public-sector customers in the USA. This on-site Senior Staff Accountant role supports fast-moving project teams by owning accurate financial close, job costing and compliance for field and corporate operations.
Role Responsibilities
- Drive month-end close activities: prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, reconcile general ledger accounts, and post journal entries to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Manage job costing and WIP accounting for multiple projects—maintain project ledgers, analyze variances, and produce job-level profitability reports for project managers.
- Process and review accounts payable, accounts receivable and contract / AIA-style billings; monitor retainage, change orders and collections to optimize cash flow.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation; oversee capitalization of construction costs and project-related capital expenditures.
- Implement and enforce internal controls, prepare supporting documentation for audits, and collaborate with external auditors during year-end audits.
- Partner with project management, procurement and operations to streamline accounting processes, identify cost drivers, and support budgeting and forecasting.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must-Have: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience (construction / utility / project accounting preferred).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, month-end close processes, and account reconciliations.
- Hands-on experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and contract billing; strong Excel and ERP proficiency.
- Preferred: Experience with industry ERPs (Viewpoint, Sage Intacct, NetSuite) or construction accounting systems.
- Familiarity with AIA billing, retainage accounting, and project-based revenue recognition.
- Prior exposure to audit support, internal controls design, and process improvement initiatives.
