VP, Membership and Strategic Development
The Vice President, Membership and Strategic Development & Corporate Secretary serves as a key member of the leadership team, responsible for driving membership growth, engagement, and retention while shaping and advancing AGA’s long-term strategic direction. What You Will Do MEMBERSHIP STRATEGY & ENGAGEMENT Define and clearly communicate AGA’s member value proposition to current and prospective members. Represent AGA leadership in executive level member engagement and communications. Utilize member data and insights to identify opportunities for increased engagement, enhanced outreach, and new member offerings. Plan and coordinate membership programs and projects to promote member knowledge, awareness, and collaboration. STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE Partner with AGA’s CEO, Leadership Team, and Board to guide AGA’s long-term strategic direction. Support planning, logistics, content, and structure for Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings. Oversee annual committee clearance and scoping processes, ensuring committees align with strategic priorities. Serve as Staff Executive for the Nominating Committee. Serve as Staff Executive for Leadership Council and Policy Council, providing leadership and guidance to support policy priorities. INVESTOR RELATIONS AND FINANCIAL ADVOCACY Act as a liaison to the global financial and investment community, championing the value of natural gas utilities as attractive investment vehicles. Continuously enhance and promote AGA’s Investor Relations program including Forums and Mini-Forums, facilitating relationships between members of the investor community and AGA member companies. Conduct regular outreach to analysts, portfolio managers, bankers and ratings agencies in partnership with other AGA leaders and member company executives. Advocate for the broader natural gas industry as an appealing and safe investment option. Connect members to new sources of capital and support them in strengthening existing financial partnerships. EVENTS & INDUSTRY INITIATIVES Design and oversee a member event strategy that educates, engages, and advocates on issues critical to the natural gas industry. Maintain budget oversight for major events and vendors, ensuring cost-effective delivery and high member ROI. Oversee the development of the AGA Dashboard highlighting key association activities for Board and Executive Committees. Contribute to publications and platforms, including AmGas, AGA’s Playbook, Year-End Report, blog, and social media. LEADERSHIP & TEAM DEVELOPMENT Lead and mentor the MSD team to deliver innovative and impactful member programs and events. Foster a collaborative, results-driven culture across AGA departments to ensure alignment with member needs and organizational goals. What you will bring: At least 15 years of experience in association leadership with specific roles in membership, corporate development, external affairs, or related fields within a trade association, professional society, or similar organization. Proven ability to build trusted relationships with executives, boards, and external stakeholders. Strong understanding of the energy sector or natural gas industry experience preferred. Demonstrated success in member engagement and retention strategies, executive engagement, governance, and event management in trade association environment. Outstanding people management and supervisory skills. Strong leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills. Demonstrated experience working within a cross-functional and interdependent leadership team. Ability to maximize budgets and manage tight timelines. Ability to travel up to 40%. How we operate:
This role is based in Washington, DC where AGA employees currently have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely. The Pay And Benefits For employees who live in the Washington, DC Metro area, the salary range for this position is $375,000 to $450,000 annually.
