As a Medical Technologist, you will perform and interpret tests across all complexity levels, primarily in hematology and chemistry with responsibilities in microbiology. You will apply your knowledge of technical, procedural, and problem-solving aspects of laboratory testing to help determine patient care outcomes. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working shifts varying between 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with weekend requirements. Responsibilities
Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting. Accurately identify each patient’s specimen and test orders and ensure results are reported accurately and in a timely manner. Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria. Identify and resolve pending specimen results from the laboratory information system for assigned departments. Report pertinent information to physicians, patient care areas, or supervisors (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delays in testing, reagent or supply depletion). Note “dates opened” and “expiration dates” and use reagents and controls only to their expiration dates. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and stock of the work area. Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems with instruments and equipment. Ensure instrument operation and reliable results; perform maintenance checks, startups, and shutdowns as assigned or required. Answer the telephone, greet customers, and provide consultation and technical support to physicians, phlebotomists, and nursing staff. Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported. Document quality control and out-of-range results appropriately. Minimum qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology or equivalent Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist level One or more specialties in Microbiology, Immunohematology, or all licenses Preferred qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Medical Technology American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification One year of clinical experience Blood bank experience Physical Requirements
Turning, stooping, bending, stretching, walking and standing Average lifting up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds Sitting for short periods, filing, moving records, laboratory supplies, and equipment Communication by spoken, written, and typed word Finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for computer work Mental demands: fast-paced environment, prioritization, problem solving, collaboration, and stress tolerance Special demands: use of personal protective equipment due to potential exposure to biohazardous or infectious agents Confidentiality: access to medical records for charting and correction of laboratory results; access limited to necessary scope Personal Protective Equipment
