Secretary to School Principal, Probationary (Anne Hutchinson School). There is a vacancy for a full-time secretarial support person assigned to the Principal and Assistant Principal of Anne Hutchinson Elementary School. This position follows Civil Service guidelines in the job title Secretary to School Principal. Beginning on or about 10/01/2025. Location: Anne Hutchinson School. Employment Terms: 12-month position with probationary or provisional appointment. Hours: 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM (35 hours per week). Salary range: $51,741.00/yr - $60,597.00/yr. Performs executive secretarial functions for the school principal; Relieves school principals of details which do not require their personal attention by using discretion, tact and knowledge of district/office policies and procedures; Uses a variety of automated systems/equipment to produce materials such as correspondence, reports, contracts, specifications and/or other data; Uses computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments; Maintains calendar of appointments for the Principal, keeping the Principal apprised of appointments, changes, and matters requiring immediate attention; Takes notes of meeting/minutes and prepares them in final document format; Answers telephone inquiries and refers requests to the appropriate party; Arranges appointments/meetings and prepares materials for them; Compiles data for reports and prepares reports or statements; Maintains files for the Principal and ensures materials are accessible for immediate use; Maintains confidential records and files, manually and via computers; Opens, sorts, and screens incoming mail and routes correspondence as appropriate; May assign and check the work of other clerical employees; Other assignments and responsibilities associated with the Office of the Principal and Assistant Principal. Requirements
Thorough knowledge of the responsibilities of an executive secretary and general business terminology, procedures and equipment; Good knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; ability to operate computer systems to produce various formats/documents (e.g., correspondence, reports, tables, charts, file storage/retrieval); ability to type at least 35 words per minute; Ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Frontline, and nVision; Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions and to compose/edit routine letters and memoranda; Ability to handle administrative details independently; ability to work effectively with others; effective written/spoken English communication; Ability to compile data and prepare reports; Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with others; clerical aptitude; accuracy; initiative; Graduation from high school or equivalent; plus either five (5) years of secretarial experience (three of which involve computer applications) or a post-high school secretarial/business program with three (3) years of specialized experience using computer applications. Substitution: 30 college credits may substitute for up to four (4) years of experience. At least one (1) year of specialized experience using computer applications as described above. *Note: Education beyond secondary level must be from an accredited institution; NYSED Fingerprint Clearance is required. Hold the civil service title Secretary to School Principal, or Be reachable on the corresponding list of eligibles for appointment by the Westchester County Department of Human Resources, or Meet the requirements for a provisional appointment by the Westchester County Department of Human Resources.
