Student Life Child Center Specialist/Group Teacher (HEOa) - 400354 (Reopened) The Student Life Child Center Specialist/Group Teacher reports to the Student Life Child Care Center Manager or his/her Designee. The Group Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for preschool-aged children. This role focuses on curriculum development, child supervision, ongoing assessment, and promoting parent engagement. The teacher will also train and supervise interns and college work-study students and participate in professional development activities. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum and Supervision Supervise preschoolers to ensure their safety across various environments. Develop and implement culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Submit lesson plans and follow structured daily schedules (includes meals, transitions, group activities, etc.). Create hands-on, interactive learning experiences that promote holistic development. Set up, maintain, and update classroom learning centers and materials. React quickly and effectively in emergency or crisis situations. Support for Staff and Interns Attend all required staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Supervise and mentor interns, volunteers, and student workers. Participate in the evaluation and training of support staff and interns. Child Assessment and Communication Maintain detailed developmental records for each child. Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide regular communication about children's progress. Support staff development by contributing to performance assessments. Health and Safety Adhere to emergency response protocols. Conduct monthly fire drills. Maintain CPR certification. Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the classroom and materials. Share responsibility for routine housekeeping. Parent Engagement Foster positive relationships with parents and encourage involvement in the center. Help organize and facilitate parent meetings. Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for families and students. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: BA in one or a combination of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Business Management, Organizational Management or Communications, or the equivalent Four years' related experience NYS Dept of Education Licensing Requirements: Classroom Teacher: Must have an Early Childhood Education Degree (subject area) Grade Level: Early Childhood- Birth-Grade 2 Certification/Licensure: Birth-Grade 2 All other regulatory requirements for a Group Teacher Preferred Qualifications: MA in one or a combination of the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Business Management, Organizational Management or Communications, or the equivalent At least one year of experience working in an early childhood setting Strong understanding of child development and culturally responsive practices Students with Disabilities Certification- Birth- Grade 2 Bilingual proficiency is a plus CPR certification CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
