Scientist in Vector Engineering and Molecular Biology

Lilly Gene Therapy Discovery and Platform Research (GTDPR) team is seeking a highly motivated Scientist specializing in molecular biology to join our gene therapy platform team. This role will focus on performing hands-on, bench-level research to support AAV vector development, capsid and payload engineering, and in vitro characterization. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including molecular biology, vector engineering, and pre-clinical development to advance innovative gene therapies from discovery through IND-enabling studies. This position will be reporting to Senior Advisor - Vector Engineering and Delivery to evaluate top performing AAV vectors that is fit-for-purpose on select CNS indications. Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular biology experiments, including but not limited to, plasmid cloning, tissue processing, nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, Western Blot and advanced bioanalytical assays (MSD, Simoa, SMC, Simple Western) Maintain cell culture and perform cell-based assays using sterile techniques. Manage lab supplies and instruments, establish and update SOPs, and maintain rigorous standards for laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and data integrity. Analyze, communicate and present experimental findings to internal teams and Lilly stakeholders. Document experiments and write technical reports, SOPs, and manuscripts in compliance with FDA regulations. Contribute to cross-functional collaboration within Lilly Gene Therapy and broader Lilly Research Laboratories, ensuring project milestones are met while maintaining adaptability to evolving research priorities. Basic Requirements
Bachelor or Master degree in biology, neuroscience, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or related fields Minimum 3 years of experience in research post-bachelor graduation or 1 year of experience in research post-master graduation. Additional Preferences
Industry experience is preferred. Hands-on expertise with genetic technology and molecular biology techniques, including end-to-end study from design to analysis is strongly preferred Familiarity with AAV biology, capsid engineering, neuroscience and gene therapy Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Graphpad Prism Experience working in a BSL-2 lab and performing cell-based assays Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple concurrent projects Previous experience with technical assay transfer as well as working in multidisciplinary teams and collaborative research environments Attention to detail and commitment to reproducible research practices Experience with high-throughput automation system is highly preferred Lilly is dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities to actively engage in the workforce, ensuring equal opportunities when vying for positions.
