Monday-Friday, on-call requirement during the week and weekends. Must be 30 minutes or less for call. Location:
120 N OAK ST, Hinsdale, 60521 The Role You'll Contribute:
Surgical technologists are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision and delegatory authority of an RN and/or surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures. The Value You'll Bring To The Team: Demonstrates an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Maintains strict aseptic technique and monitors all team members at the field and all activities to ensure no breaks in technique. Performs instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator as per policy. Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure. Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure. Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of the team with cleaning of room and in prepping the OR for the next patient. Assists the surgeon and/or qualified first assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors, and manipulating the endoscopic camera. Supervises other healthcare team members in the surgical environment. Utilizes knowledge base to assist with orientation, training, and the education of new personnel. Promotes a safe environment. Takes appropriate action in emergency situations, being aware of and controlling hazards which may endanger patients, visitors, and employees. Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Adheres to all policies and procedures. Qualifications: High School Grad or Equiv Required One or More years of Work Experience Preferred Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.
