Tech Lead / Staff Software Engineer - Real-time Intelligence Supply Pricing. We are seeking an exceptional Staff Engineer to lead the technical infrastructure powering Uber's dynamic pricing systems that serve millions of drivers and riders globally. This role demands a proven track record of extraordinary technical leadership and innovative solutions at world-class technology companies (leading unicorns, FAANG, or equivalent). Role Scope
You'll architect and scale real-time pricing infrastructure handling 1M+ QPS, directly impacting marketplace efficiency and driver earnings. This is a unique opportunity to solve complex technical challenges at the intersection of real-time optimization, distributed systems, and marketplace dynamics while building the next generation of pricing platform infrastructure. What You Will Do
Lead the design and execution of multi-quarter \'Pricing as a Platform\' initiatives to enhance marketplace efficiency, pricing reliability, and developer velocity. Architect real-time pricing and optimization systems that balance supply/demand across global markets. Drive technical strategy for pricing platform infrastructure, including ML model serving, experimentation frameworks, and real-time decision engines. Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture: Mentor and guide the team; establish standards and architectural patterns; drive multi-quarter initiatives. Cross-Functional Impact: Partner with Marketplace, Data Science, Product, ML Engineering, and Platform Engineering teams to build unified infrastructure with high availability. Engineering Excellence & Leadership: Establish engineering practices, operational excellence, and foster technical leadership across the organization. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Computer Science degree or equivalent; 8+ years of industry experience with demonstrated exceptional technical leadership; proven impact in real-time infrastructure (100M+ users or 1M+ QPS, 10x improvements); experience at leading tech companies (Meta, Amazon, Databricks, TikTok, Google, Netflix, Airbnb, or similar). Deep Technical Expertise: Distributed systems at scale, real-time streaming and batch processing (Kafka, Flink, Spark), low-latency data systems; databases (MySQL, Hive, Redis); microservices, service mesh, observability; strong coding skills in Go and Java. Leadership & Execution: Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive multi-quarter initiatives; experience managing technical relationships across organizations; mentorship and culture-building. Preferred Qualifications
Background in real-time pricing, optimization, platformization (experimentation platforms), or ML infrastructure. People management experience or openness to management track in the future. Open-source contributions or thought leadership in distributed systems. Experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code; strong focus on operational excellence, incident management, SLA optimization, and reliability. Compensation & Benefits
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: salary range USD 223,000 - USD 248,000 per year. For Seattle, WA-based roles: USD 223,000 - USD 248,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: USD 223,000 - USD 248,000 per year. All US locations: eligible for Uber bonus program, equity awards and other compensation; benefits available.
