Role Responsibilities

At the conclusion of this position, co-ops will have increased their knowledge of investing, the mutual fund industry, employee engagement, and a firm understanding of how information technology works at an asset manager.

MFS co-op positions are a 6-month commitment, working Monday – Friday (January 6th through June 26th, 2026), and work between 35-40 hours. Our program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in a co-op program through their college or university and can meet our requirements.

Job Summary The Data Scientist Analyst Co-op position involves working as part of a dynamic team of Data Scientists, Sales Strategists, and Market Data Analysts within the Technology and Distribution departments. This team works with internal business partners within Distribution to develop models and provide analytics to improve decision-making.

What You Will Do Primary functions include, but are not limited to:

Working with domain specialists in Distribution and Technology to integrate business needs with data analytics technology solutions.

Defining the problem and identifying business requirements.

Identifying, collecting, loading, and preparing the data.

Building analytical models using descriptive, predictive and other advanced analytical techniques on transformed data sets.

Analyzing and interpreting the results of the analytical models.

Designing and implementing data analytics pipeline into production environment.

Communicating results clearly and concisely using visual formats.

Working with other Data Scientists and Technology domain specialists to identify opportunities and deliver novel process improvements to the Distribution business units, leveraging data from internal systems including CRM, Sales, and MFS.com, third-party market data, and other identified data sets as required.

What We Are Looking For

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related area. Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Analytics, or Applied Mathematics are preferred.

Experience in applying Advanced Analytics and/or Data Science Modeling Techniques (project or work experience).

Strong expertise utilizing Python for machine learning and statistical analysis with object-oriented code structure.

Basic knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning, including classification, clustering, neural networks, non-parametric methods, multivariate statistics, reliability models, Markov models, stochastic models, Bayesian models, and NLP.

Comfort manipulating and analyzing data in various formats; experience with high-volume, high-dimensional data from varying sources is a plus.

Understanding Generative AI capabilities and prompt formatting.

Understanding relational, XML and NoSQL database models with SQL data access methods.

Strong communication skills and proven analytical ability to develop creative solutions to meet business needs.

Experience working on a team, preferably on projects.
