Overview

Director of Finance serves as the senior financial leader of the Harris County Public Defender’s office (HCPDO). This role is responsible for providing strategic direction, oversight, and management of all financial operations, ensuring fiscal accountability and compliance with county, state, and federal requirements. The Director of Finance partners closely with the Chief Public Defender and senior leadership to align financial planning with duties and responsibilities. Responsibilities

Develop and implement the office’s financial strategy, aligning budgets and resources with organizational goals. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Public Defender and executive team on fiscal matters, resource allocation, and long-term planning. Lead financial modeling and forecasting to support sustainable growth and innovation. Prepare and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Chief Defender and the county budget office. Monitor expenditures, ensuring compliance with county, state, and federal regulations. Track and report on grant funding and contracts. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for internal stakeholders, oversight bodies, and external funders. Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard public funds and assets. Coordinate and support internal and external audits the mission of providing high-quality, client-centered defense services. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in finance, accounting, or budgeting. Including at least three (3) years in a senior leadership role. Note:

Regular Full-time Monday - Friday | 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Salary
