We have an exciting opportunity for a

Tax Director . This role is accountable for service delivery, client satisfaction, employee satisfaction and professional growth, and business results for a team of tax professionals within Wealth Enhancement Tax & Consulting Services (WETCS). In addition to providing tax advisory, planning and tax return preparation services to clients as an individual contributor, this position has a substantial team leadership and management focus, along with team operations, cross-team collaboration, and team tax expertise development responsibilities. Achieve Core Objectives for the Team: Deliver client and WEG financial advisor satisfaction goals, deliver high team satisfaction and morale, and deliver client growth, revenue and profitability targets.

In the spirit of pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $160,000.00 to $180,000.00, exclusive of bonuses and benefits. This role is eligible for our corporate bonus.

Primary Job Functions Team Leadership and Management

Recruit, interview and hire high-potential team members for open positions.

Ensure staff are competent in their responsibilities and have access to necessary tools and training; train new staff on policies and procedures.

Ensure team members have clarity on role, responsibilities, work objectives, and expectations as a WETCS team member.

Monitor and manage ongoing team performance versus goals.

Hold team members accountable for their work commitments and for embodying WE and WETCS values.

Conduct annual performance reviews for team members.

Identify development needs and implement development plans.

Coach and mentor team members.

Manage spend to budget.

Tax Advisory, Planning and Preparation

Prepare client tax returns for Individuals and entities including Trust, Estate, Gift, S Corp, C Corp, Partnerships, LLCs, and Foreign Reporting taxes.

Review selected team member and outsourcer prepared tax returns.

Prepare tax strategies and projections.

Review tax strategy and projection work output.

Provide tax planning advice to clients and their WEG Financial Advisors.

Conduct tax research and planning, including use of tax research tools and retirement account recommendations.

Review and respond to tax notices.

Respond to State and Federal auditors inquiries and work to resolve them.

Amend tax returns.

Execute Tax Professional and Client / FA Engagement Practices

Manage client and financial advisor assignments for team members.

Ensure established operational processes are followed by the team.

Ensure communication guidelines between team members and clients, financial advisors, and other internal clients are followed.

Ensure effective process, collaboration, and outcomes with outsourced service providers.

Proactively identify and address potential issues and contribute to ongoing effectiveness and productivity improvements of tax operations.

Train WETCS personnel on tax software, systems, tools, and practices.

Address urgent or high-impact operational issues promptly.

Ensure team adherence to WETCS Compliance Manual policies and full compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.

Cross-Team Collaboration

Work with other WETCS Tax Directors to ensure consistent processes across tax teams.

Coordinate with other WETCS Tax Directors to foster a shared WETCS culture and cross-team collaboration; team boundaries are minimized for team members.

Assist other WEG teams (Sales, Advisory, Marketing, M&A, etc.) as needed, briefing them and their clients on WETCS services and assisting with closing deals.

Tax Expertise and Professional Growth

Maintain expertise in all aspects of tax compliance.

Maintain fluency in tax software, tools and procedures used at WETCS.

Grow tax expertise in at least one area of tax each year.

Stay informed about current trends in tax and the tax services industry.

Serve as an expert tax resource and answer tax questions from the team, WETCS, and WEG.

Grow breadth and depth of tax expertise across the team.

Assist with planning and operationalizing professional education and growth activities.

Assist with selected WETCS initiatives as time permits.

Education/Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Finance or Business; BS in Accounting preferred.

CPA or EA required.

8 years of tax accounting experience.

12 years of overall accounting experience (public, corporate, tax).

4 years of people leadership experience preferred, managing 2+ direct reports.

Experience preparing high-net-worth tax returns (1040s).

Experience preparing at least one of: Trust, Gift, Estate, S Corp, C Corp, Partnerships, LLC, Private Foundation, Foreign Reporting.

Experience doing tax planning / projections.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with ability to build relationships across the firm and with clients.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.

WEG hires employees and makes decisions about salary qualifications based on factors such as: role, experience, qualifications, skills, tenure, cost-of-living and market demand. The entire salary grade for a director level is $142,600 to $213,900. The base salary range above is the starting range for this position.
