Senior Technical Writer role at QinetiQ US (formerly Avantus Federal). The team develops next-generation technology and products across robotic and autonomous platforms, ground, soldier, and maritime systems in 50+ locations worldwide, focusing on sensor science, signal processing, data fusion, AI/ML, and AR. The role supports Law Enforcement Agency operations and requires the ability to explain complex technical concepts in plain language to federal government clients. A background in national security or Congressional engagement is strongly preferred. Documentation Development & Management: Develop, write, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including user manuals, SOPs, system documentation, and quick reference guides for law enforcement agency systems and analytical tools; create and update technical specifications and workflow diagrams; maintain documentation repositories with version control; establish and enforce documentation standards, style guides, and templates. Content Strategy & Information Architecture: Design information architecture strategies for technical documentation libraries; organize content for accessibility; develop roadmaps, taxonomies, metadata, and content management frameworks; conduct content audits and identify gaps. Stakeholder Collaboration & Requirements Gathering: Gather technical information from analysts, data scientists, developers, and federal stakeholders; conduct interviews with SMEs; document statistical methodologies, data quality processes, and analytical workflows; participate in project meetings to stay informed of changes. Technical Editing & Quality Assurance: Review for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to style; perform QA to ensure completeness; edit statistical reports and executive summaries; ensure compliance with federal requirements and accessibility guidelines (Section 508); develop documentation review processes. User Experience & Usability: Apply user-centered design to documentation; create visual aids (diagrams, flowcharts, screenshots, infographics); develop interactive and multimedia content where appropriate; conduct usability testing and incorporate feedback. Documentation Tools & Systems: Use Confluence, SharePoint, and other CMS; utilize Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, and other diagramming tools; support documentation system implementations and improvements; create templates and standardized formatting; explore new tools to increase efficiency. Training & Knowledge Transfer: Develop training materials (presentations, guides, videos); support creation of e-learning modules; conduct training sessions; mentor junior writers and contributors; document lessons learned and best practices. Project & Documentation Management: Manage multiple documentation projects with competing priorities and deadlines; maintain schedules, coordinate reviews and approvals, and ensure timely delivery aligned with system releases. Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Information Science, or related field 10+ years of progressive technical writing experience, preferably in federal government, law enforcement, or data analytics environments Experience documenting complex data systems, analytical tools, or enterprise software Background in federal contracting and government documentation standards preferred Technical Writing Skills

Expert-level proficiency in technical writing principles, methodologies, and industry best practices Strong grammar, style, and clarity; ability to write clear, concise technical content Experience with user guides, SOPs, technical specifications, and training materials; ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences Familiarity with documentation standards such as Microsoft Manual of Style or Chicago Manual of Style Technical & Tool Proficiency

Advanced proficiency with Confluence, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio), and Adobe Acrobat Experience with CMS, version control, and documentation repositories Familiarity with data security requirements Security & Citizenship
