Overview
Role: Solutions Architect. Client: VDOT - State of Virginia. Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid). Local candidates strongly preferred and within 2 hours' drive to Richmond. Interview mode: Web Cam and In Person. Job ID: 777761. VDOT's probationary period for this position is three months, during which the candidate is expected to be onsite in Richmond VA 3-4 days per week. After this period, the role may transition to a largely remote posture, with a minimum onsite expectation of 1 week per quarter (to support leadership Town Hall sessions) and additional time as needed for specific assignments. Responsibilities
Create overall application and solution architectures, component designs, and systems integration for defined business solutions. Lead efforts in defining, documenting, and estimating for enterprise applications (requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and OS environment, on-prem, hybrid and cloud topologies, interfaces, checks and controls, and inputs/outputs). Collaborate with IT staff to assess business needs and translate them into automated solutions. Produce solution design artifacts, including technical estimates, conceptual/logical/physical designs, sequence diagrams, and data models. Coordinate new system development to ensure consistency with existing applications and COTS solutions. Analyze feasibility and compatibility with hardware and other programs; consult with clients to prototype, architect, and design applications to meet needs. Collaborate with Business areas and cross-functional Enterprise Architects to understand business needs and provide strategic consultation. Partner with architects and technical teams to develop roadmaps and strategies to support agency KPIs. Design/implement Enterprise Security/technology patterns. Provide architectural guidance on initiatives and considerations for legacy solutions. Qualifications
Experience with SAFe architecture and Agile/Scrum teams. Proven experience in developing enterprise and solution-level architectural designs. Experience linking cross-functional applications across disparate business units and systems. Experience with requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development, and data mapping. Knowledge of relational database design and management techniques. Strong project management skills or substantial exposure to project-based work structures. Knowledge of software quality assurance best practices and methodologies. Competency with XML constructs and schemas. Experience with API protocols and schemas (SOAP, REST). Understanding of end-user needs and requirements; alignment with organizational goals. Ability to work creatively and analytically in a team environment. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Required Skills
