This posting is being used to fill various Architect positions at the specified location. The authorized level of the position is Architect V. Applications are being accepted down to the Architect IV in the event of recruiting difficulties. SALARY RANGE:

The posted salary range indicates potential compensation, not necessarily starting salary. New external hires typically begin at the initial step. Placement above the initial step may be considered based on position requirements, exceptional qualifications, budget availability, and other relevant factors, all requiring prior approval. Architect IV, AR-24: $8,289.00 - $10,580.00 per month Architect V, AR-26: $8,951.00 - $11,427.00 per month Examples of Duties

Supervises and works with a small group of lower-level architects and draftsmen in the preparation of designs, plans, specifications and estimates for major and complex buildings and structures such as schools, health, social services and higher education facilities, and other government buildings, which include new construction, remodeling, alterations, and major repairs; Assigns work to subordinates, observes work in progress, providing assistance and technical advice as needed in the solution of unusual or complex problems; Reviews finished work for architectural design values, technical adequacy and conformance to departmental objectives; reviews completed plans and specifications prepared by contractors for compliance with building, plumbing and electrical codes, and with fire and health regulations; Inspects construction and architectural work done by contractors to insure compliance with designs, plans, specifications, and contract agreements; confers with engineers engaged in the preparation of structural, electrical and mechanical plans; Makes recommendations and suggests changes in materials and construction, and makes necessary adjustments in architectural designs to fit structural, electrical and mechanical requirements; interprets building code requirements; May recommend building sites and types of buildings best suited for the intended purpose. Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement:

Graduation from an accredited school or college of architecture or engineering, with a degree in architecture or architectural engineering. Four years of successful and progressive experience in architecture which will enable the applicant to perform successfully at the professional level may be substituted for graduation from college provided this experience demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture and an understanding of the field of architecture comparable to that which would be acquired through successful completion of a full four-year course leading to a bachelor’s degree in an accredited college or university with a major study in architecture. Experience Requirements:

Supervisory potential or the ability to perform supervisory duties will be considered to have been met when there is strong evidence of the necessary supervisory aptitudes as demonstrated by outstanding performance on special assignments of understudy supervisory activities, self-development programs such as further education or training in supervision or affirmative appraisals by supervisors as to leadership qualities. Professional Architect License Requirement:

For the Architect IV and higher levels, applicant must possess a Hawaii State Certificate of Registration as professional architect. Driver’s License Requirement:
